Agentify Any App

A practical pattern for turning existing software into agent-operable workflows through typed APIs, stable URIs, permissions, confirmations, and audit logs.

The app control surface

Agentifying an app is not the same as adding a chatbot to the interface. The stronger pattern is to expose a controlled app surface that agents can operate through stable contracts while the application remains the system of record.

The useful question is what typed surfaces the app exposes for context, validation, preview, confirmation, write actions, and audit. These should remain thin orchestration surfaces over the same domain services used by the normal product.

Permissions and accountable actions

Every action needs an accountable actor, tenant or workspace scope, role and resource checks, and clear delegation rules. A missing or expired delegation should stop execution. High-risk actions should require explicit confirmation, not implied consent.

Skills as operational manuals

Skills are operational manuals for agents. A good skill states which workflow it covers, which resources it can operate on, which APIs it may call, which outputs it should produce, what requires confirmation, and how errors should be handled.

A practical first workflow

A practical MVP starts with one painful, repeatable, high-value workflow. Inventory the routes, APIs, data models, permission checks, audit logs, and manual steps. Then define the minimum context, validation, dry-run, and action surfaces required.

Test the complete path with permission enforcement, confirmations, idempotency, stale resource handling, and audit logging. The app should remain the source of truth throughout.
